Old Corrugated Cardboard (OCC) is often the most prominent material found in commercial and industrial waste streams. By removing cardboard waste most facilities will save money while reducing the amount of recyclable products found in the landfill. Cardboard is generally bulky and quickly fills dumpsters. Once the OCC is removed from the waste stream, the amount of garbage is largely reduced. This will potentially lead to a reduction in the waste bill and a new revenue stream.
OCC is the material used to make new boxes. These boxes are a vital part of the packaging industry. Old corrugated containers are used in the distribution of a multitude of packaged products worldwide. When manufacturing is booming, more products are being produced and more packaging is needed to move these products. Once the packaged product arrives at the wholesaler, manufacturer, retailer, or at a residence the product is removed and the OCC or box is potentially recycled and turned back into another new form of paper or a new box.
It is our responsibility to promote the collection and recycling of OCC. When the container has completed its originally intended purpose we recycle it to recover the wood fibers. The recycler bales the OCC and sends it off to a paper mill where it is mixed with water and turned back to a wet pulp condition and then transformed into another new form of paper packaging. The fibers recovered from the OCC containers are wood fibers originating from trees. These valuable fibers can be recycled over and over again to create another new form of paper product. Wood fiber from trees are a renewable resource which can be used over and over again.
If your company has significant quantities of loose corrugated that is being discarded, we would be interested in helping you develop or improve your current recycling program.
